A downloadable game for Windows

Happy Halloween!

For just this occassion i'm releasing a demo build super early, hopefully it is to be enjoyed.

In OverGlow you gotta help a cute candle ghost rekindle her dimming flame, her lack of arms make it difficult for her to feed herself.
So in comes you, ready to direct the fuel into her mouth.

Make that Ghost fat yo!

(None of the sounds or music is mine)

This has so much potential. Hopefully this gets dropped with a full update.

I'd love to play but i can't open dll files

I think u can open it with 7zip.. Its like winrar but for free, its older but much updated ig? anyway u can use it to open it

are you paying for winra

(+1)

I would pay to play the full version of this for sure

(+4)

Please, come back, we need update ;(

(+7)

Do you plan on updating this at any point in the future?

(+3)

I dont think the creator is going to reply. the last time the creator replied to a comment was a year ago

(+5)

An update is unlikely considering the rotten foundation of the project's code.

A complete redo with better graphics is more likely since the project is 2 years old and I've improved over that time. Art-wise and dev-wise.

Don't hold on to it happening anytime soon however. I'm back in school and it's taking up most of my time, what I'm learning does help make development easier though so future prospects shine brighter than they did before.

(+4)

I really hope that you come back to this game someday, i think it has lots of potential! Good luck with school as well!

(+5)

Thank you very much homie, I hope so too!

(1 edit) (+1)

Same, everytime I remember this project It's upsetting to see it never got far, especially after seeing there was progress being made a few years back. Really hope to see it returned to one day.

(+2)

Are you still considering updating this demo?
I don't think you'd need a graphical rework, it looks fine as it is and it would just add to the work scale and make things harder to return too.

will there be a version for the browser

(+4)

Hard to say, I'd have to weigh the pro's and cons.

(+1)

i completely understand

when will be the next update tho?

(+3)

Can't give any times, still really want to finish this project but a lot of things get in the way.

I think at this point it's more likely I'll rebuild the game from the ground up. Need a stronger foundation, the biggest thing keeping me away is how ramshackle the project is at the moment. And also my art has advanced in the time away from the project and I wouldn't mind giving Ghost Girl a graphical update.

Darn, well, at least you still wanna continue  ^^, and that idea you got of a full rework gives me both hype and hope

(+2)(-1)

I'm happy to hear that man, I never wanted to just leave this game high and dry.

The reception to this demo alone really drives me to wanna give something good in return. But I also need to be careful that I don't do too much at once. The sad reality is I haven't had time to ignite that spark I had while making this demo. Things are a lot busier now and have been since the past year. I'm constantly working on other game projects for my SFW portfolio so I can get into a higher school and focus on the art this time.

Here's hoping that once I actually get into that school things will be a little more stable for a while. But again it's hard to make promises on that front. The biggest thing I'm banking on now is that a stronger foundation for the game will make it easier to work on regularly even if only for a short period of time every day/week.

I'm very thankful that you understand and are still excited for the game. It does a lot for me to hear that. I sincerely hope I can give you the game you're hyped and hoping for.

hope so ^^!

how do i open rar files when i try it opens a notepad

Do you have WinRar installed on your device?

(-2)

I don't want to start a game at all?

(+4)

To be honest I think this game would be really really cute and fun in a full version. I do hope an update comes out relatively soon but please do take your time with it! I'm really excited to see more of this candle gal as she seems like a really good character.

I downloaded the game and it just show a purple screen and i couldn't do annything

I wish it comes out, it looks really good

Really good game i wonder what happens after next update!

what does the third button do? the one that's an axe with wood and a music note

That's coming in a later update when i have the time to work on the game again. I pray i can find the time to have it done before this demo turns a year old.

(-1)

and... it is, oh well

Is there a way to play this in a windowed view?

(+1)

At the moment probably not, at least not in-game.

Do wanna add that and other handy options when i can finally get back to work on the game.

(+1)

hey, I just wa

nted to tell you that I really liked the demo and I can't wait for the full game to be released <3

Thank you very much, I look forward to that aswell.

I cant figure out a proper way of opening its rar file and opening the game.

Do I need a unity player or sum?

All that you should have to do is take the files in the rar itself, put these inside a seperate folder and then run the .exe.

Make sure all the files in the rar are present in said folder, or you'll be unable to launch it.

oh, the trouble I was having was extracting files out of the RAR, sorry I should've explained that better. how do I open RAR files?

Do you have WinRar installed on your computer?

If not then that's your isssue.

where do I download it

You could save yourself a lot of time by asking Google this exact same question.

i've fixed the zip issue that i had and i've just played this game...
the ghost girl looks super cute and i love how she interacts with the player in the dialogue, while i also like how she grows each time you feed her with wood...

absolutely great game, with beautiful visuals and with interesting combo mechanics, i cant wait to see the next update of this game or the full game too, it will be splendid!
keep up the good work!

I adore the character and the atmosphere you've created!

Hoping to see more of this game in the future <3

it doesnt work

(1 edit) (-1)

uh, sorry for bothering, but i am getting the "Failed to load mono" error whenever i try to run CandleGhostSpine.2.exe
is it not the right exe i am trying to run, or am i doing something else wrong? previously game worked fine on the same (i think) system, and probably the same game version

(1 edit)

If the folder layout looks like this it should work without issue.

Are you running on an operating system that isn't Windows?

(1 edit)

The layout is looking exactly like this, and I am trying to run it on Windows 10, Home edition. I can't tell what was the game and system version when I successfully ran it before, but I can assure that it was Win 10 as well.

P.S. - I've tried running each version of exe from two downloads, none of them worked and gave out the same error. (Only one was unzipped at a time)

Aye this issue definetely has something to do with missing files in the folder you're trying to run the Exe from.

Looking this up online someone noted that they had this issue because the game folder was buried very deep within a bunch of other folder so maybe that's something you can use.

What happened between the game working and the game no longer working?

And just to make sure you have placed all these files in a windows folder ye?

Now that you mentioned it, maybe the problem really is that I put it into too many other folders. I'll try extracting it into a single folder on the desktop and see what happens.

Between the game working and then no longer working there may have happened several windows updates, maybe an entire system reinstalling, though I doubt the game has been updated since then.

And, uh, I don't entirely understand your last question, do you mean a folder named "windows" or what?

Yes, I've just tested it and it worked perfectly fine from the desktop, thanks for help!

(+1)

hows the game going?

Currently nothing is happening or has happened for about a month or maybe even two.

Exams are nearing completion, i hope i'll be able to dedicate some time to OverGlow again soon.

From where we left off there's still a bit of work to do for implementing, but we're about 40% of the way there with the next update.

I sincerely hope we'll be able to finish the update before this demo becomes a year old. But i honestly can't set anything in stone.

I like this game, about when will the next update be?

Can't say. Progress has been slow as usual, i really only have time to focus on OverGlow during vacations.

But every vacation brings me a step closer.

Too bad exams are sucking up all my energy and time currently.

(+2)

Love it so far. The ghost girl is extremely cute. I can't wait to see her get bigger.

(+2)

How's development going?

(+3)

Slowly. Most stuff is planned out, the new weight stages have already been drawn and i had been working on a cool little bonus feature that will probably see light near the end of development. Last time i worked on the game was around the end of december.

I have spent these last few weeks on finishing off my internship and working on a little comic. After the comic's done i was hoping to get back to OverGlow.

Another issue however is that my exams are starting this monday and i'm going to be working on a project for about half a year, so that might leave me a little spent.

I really want to finish OverGlow so i can start on the next project, but it's just been hard to pick up again. Especially considering the state of some of the code and that i might need to wholly re-implement certain things to have an easier time for future updates.

plz make it borwser play

Easier said than done, due to certain settings i cannot build a browser version.

I also uploaded it the moment i had a good build to meet the deadline so i hadn't taken much time to figure out alternatives.

I'll have a look at it for the next update.

i cant open the rar with my 7zip... fuk

Are you able to get more wood in this version?

Nope

hello, i tried to open the winrar file (zip), but it sadly told me that the file is either ''missing or broken''.

can you upload a new zip/ link please?

judging by those screenshots tho, the game looks great.

i would love to play it

I had no issues downloading and installing it myself, i'm assuming the issue's on your end. But sure i'll set up an alt link real quick

Can someone please make a video for this please?

this game is still being updated right?

Yes it is, as a matter of fact. I'm working on it right now.

(1 edit)

I don't quite understand how to start the game. When I download it gives me a .rar file, but not a folder that the install instructions say I should have.

Any help?

Have you ever used winrar before?

I'm thinking you're gonna need it to be able to open the .rar and extract the folder that's inside.

I'll also see if i can make installation of the game a little easier sometime.

I have never used winrar before! In fact this is the first I am hearing of it at all. Thank you for telling me.

Aye alright, let me know if you get everything running, I hope you'll enjoy the demo if you do.

Thank you very much for your time. I probably never would have figured out that I needed winrar to play this if you didn't tell me. The game was cute. Did you make the music yourself?

Aye i'm glad you got to play it and nah none of the music is mine. Just temporary placeholder stuff, maybe someday i'll find someone who wants to make music for this game.

I look forward to more! ^-^

make it playable in bowser

i love it
